School Dress Code

Dress Code Policy - Approved by the Stratford Board of Education June 25th, 2012

The Stratford Board of Education Dress Code Policy states that, “there is a positive relationship between good dress habits, good work habits, and proper school behavior. Students are expected to dress appropriately for school.” To support this policy, Lordship Elementary School students are expected to adhere to the following Revised Dress Code Policy.

Tops:

  • üAppropriately sized long or short sleeve shirts that have a collar, including polo shirts, Oxford shirts, dress shirts, or blouses in solid navy, light blue, or white are to be worn.
  • üIn cooler weather, appropriately sized turtlenecks, mock turtlenecks, sweaters, sweatshirts, and vests in solid navy, light blue, or white can be worn.
  • üAppropriately sized t-shirts in solid navy, light blue, or white (no advertisements/writing) may be worn on days students have physical education classes.

Bottoms:

  • üAppropriately sized solid navy or khaki pants, chinos, dress pants, corduroy pants, cargo pants, skirts, and jumpers are to be worn.
  • üIn warmer weather, appropriately sized chino shorts, skorts, and capris in solid navy or khaki can be worn.
  • üAppropriately sized solid navy or khaki sweatpants and nylon running pants with or without stripes on the sides can be worn on days students have physical education classes.
  • üIn warmer weather, appropriately sized nylon gym shorts in solid navy or khaki with or without lines on the side can be worn when students have physical education classes.
  • üBlue jeans and colored denim pants are not allowed.

Footwear:

  • üSneakers or shoes are to be worn with socks. (Note: Sneakers with socks must be worn on days students have physical education classes.)
  • üOn inclement and cold weather days, appropriately sized boots may be worn.
  • üFlip Flops, backless shoes, high heels, chunky heels, and open toe shoes and sandals are not allowed.

Jewelry:

  • üOversized earrings, oversized necklaces, numerous rings and bracelets are not allowed.

Headwear:

  • üHats, bandanas, and scarves are not allowed inside the school building.

Consequences for Non Compliance

For those students who do not comply after a two week grace period at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year with the Stratford Board of Education approved revised Lordship School Dress Code, the following consequences will be applied.

  • üIf a student does not comply, a verbal warning will be given.
  • üIf a student does not comply after the warning, the parent/guardian will be contacted by phone.
  • üIf a student continues to not comply, the parent/guardian will be required to have a conference with the Principal.
  • üIf the student continues not to comply, an in school suspension will be issued.
  • üIf the student continues not to comply, a meeting with the Superintendent will be required. The Superintendent may elect to transfer the student to a school in the district that does not have a formal structured dress code.
  • üParents/guardians of the students unable to comply with the policy due to
  • 1.Financial reasons
  • 2.Dictates of a recognized organized religion, or
  • 3.A medical condition must notify the Principal and Superintendent in writing. A meeting will be held and efforts will be made to resolve the matter.
