PTA Committees

The following is a list of committees that have been formed within the Wilcoxson PTA community. Please contact our Co-Presidents Sara and Sarah, wilcoxsonptacopresidents@gmail.com, if you are interested in joining one.


__Book Fair: Help set up and break down book fairs (2 per year), help during school hours, and open house.

__Birthday Bulletin Board: Update board monthly with students' birthdays and chosen themes. We need someone for each month.

__Cultural Enrichment: Work to select appropriate assemblies to be performed for students.

__Father Daughter Dance (3- 6)/ Princess Extravaganza ( K-2): Work on an event that fosters the relationship between Father (or someone special) and Daughter.

__Free Money (box tops, store cards, etc): Coordinate with stores and programs (such as grocery stores and Target) that offer free money to the PTA. Coordinating box top monthly activities and send in for redemption. Keep a tab on money received.

__Fun Family Nights/Events (Bingo, Trunk or Treat, Harboryard, etc): Organize fun gatherings for the Wilcoxson community.

__Fundraising (Walkathon, Jeannine Fundraisers): Organize events and drives to raise money for school programs, supplies and PTA endeavors.

__ Holiday Fair: Plan an evening of crafts, vendors, food and games for Wilcoxson Community before the winter holidays.

__Hospitality: Provide and set up refreshments for certain school functions. Purchase gifts for teachers and staff when necessary.

__Membership: Promote membership and come up with fun ways to help enrich membership.

__Memorial Day Parade: Help coordinate students to march in the Stratford Town Parade.

__Mother/Son Event: Work on an event, such as a Bowling Night, that fosters the relationship between Mother (or someone special) and Son.

__Philanthropy Committee: Promote volunteerism in our school to help the community. Such as: organize sponsoring a family (or two or more!) at Sterling House, coat donations, mitten tree at Holiday Fair, pack backpacks at the food bank in Fairfield, etc… Help our kids get involved in the activities and the process as much as possible.

__Plant Sale: Set up plant sale at school in Spring. Help children choose plants for their family.

__ PTA Class Representatives: To work as a liaison between the PTA, parents and the classrooms. Parents are asked to attend the PTA meetings each month to make sure communication is uninterrupted.

__Pumpkin Bread Coordinator: Each year before Thanksgiving we ask families to bake pumpkin bread for the elderly. We need someone to coordinate the collection and distribution of the bread. This involves sending a flier and recipe and coordinating volunteers. The bread is collected in the morning and delivered in the afternoon. Children volunteer with their parents to visit the senior centers and deliver it to them.

__Recreational Reading: Work with the reading specialists to coordinate reading incentives and to encourage reading for fun.

__School Beautification: Work to improve the appearance of the school grounds.

__School Directory: Gather contact information for participating families and coordinate book to be distributed. Information will be gathered by the parent representatives of each class.

__School Spirit Gear, Spirit Sticks and School Store: Organize the sale and distribution of Wilcoxson clothing and other items. Choosing items, etc need to be done with PTA approval. Organize parent volunteers for monthly store.

__School Pictures: Assist photographers and students on picture days.

__6th Grade Committee: coordinate fundraising events to help pay for the expenses incurred for special activities. All 6th grade parents who want to be included may help.

__Teacher Appreciation Week: Help coordinate a week of events to show the teachers how much we love them.

__Variety Show: Help with all the aspects of school-wide variety show: sign-ups, rehearsals, stage crew, etc.

__ Volunteer as Needed/Call Me If You Need Me: If a committee is running short on help, they’ll contact you. And/or be available to make copies, packets for teachers, make fliers, stuff envelopes, etc. on an as needed basis.

__Wee Deliver: Assist children in our in-school postal system on a bi-weekly schedule. Coordinate contests and incentives to encourage the children to write letters.

__Year End Picnic: Organize an evening of fun and community to celebrate the end of the year.
