...and the best attendance for the month of September goes to... Mrs. Acevedo’s 3rd Grade Students! 🥳
Attendance is always the first step toward a successful school year. Each day of school equals 7 hours of learning and social connection for our students — time that truly makes a difference! Once again, we’re thrilled to share that McDonald’s (2439 Barnum Ave.) has partnered with us to celebrate great attendance. Each month, the classroom with the best attendance will enjoy a Happy Meal party sponsored by our friends at McDonald’s. 🍔🍟 Permission forms and menu options will be sent home for parents to complete.
We’re so grateful for their generosity and for our families’ continued support. Parents, if your child must be absent for any reason, please contact our main office at (203) 385-4190 or send in a doctor’s note upon their return.
Thank you for helping us make every day count at Franklin! 💙

Dear Families,
Please take a moment to read the important message from Stratford Public Schools (included below). It explains the purpose of our recent diagnostic assessments and how the results will be shared with you.
Your child’s results will be sent home in their folder/backpack by the end of this week. We encourage you to review them together and celebrate their efforts. This is also a great opportunity to prepare for parent-teacher conferences, where teachers will explain the results in detail and share strategies and resources to support your child’s growth.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support!

Hello Families,
In your child’s folder today, you will find a parent-teacher conference form. Conferences will take place on Thursday, October 16th and Thursday, October 23rd. Both days will be early dismissal days.
Please select one date and your preferred time:
Afternoon (12:45–3:00 PM)
Evening (6:00–9:00 PM)
You will receive a confirmation from your child’s classroom teacher once the schedules are finalized.
Kindly return your selection by Thursday, October 10th so we can stay organized.
Thank you!
Last week was a very productive and exciting one at Franklin!
We had an amazing student-led assembly where students sang “Harambee” to celebrate unity and working together. Each classroom also presented their class charter—a set of expectations that they created together to highlight how they want to feel and how they will work together to build a positive learning environment.
During the assembly, students also gave thoughtful presentations on our school-wide expectations, and our sixth graders performed a special rendition of “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. We are so proud of their leadership and creativity!
In addition, our sixth grade students delivered their campaign speeches, followed by elections for Student Council president, vice president, and class representatives. Congratulations to all who participated!
Other highlights from the week include:
The completion of our beginning-of-year assessments
Picture Day, where everyone looked fabulous!
The start of our partnership with Fairfield University, as we welcomed 20 college students who will be working with our 1st and 3rd grade classrooms throughout the year.
As we move into the next weeks of learning, please continue to foster a strong, healthy study routine at home. Creating routines and consistency is the key to success.
Also, please note that some families will be receiving an attendance report at home. Remember to keep the school informed if your child needs to be absent. Good attendance is the first step to a successful school year!
Thank you for your continued support in making Franklin such a vibrant learning community!

Building Our Franklin School Charter
This week, Ms. Pinto, Ms. Dickens, and I visited classrooms to see the charters students have been creating. These charters help build a positive school environment—thank you to our teachers for guiding this work!
A Charter is a collaborative document where students and staff outline how they want to treat each other, how they want to feel at school, and the behaviors that support those goals.
Next Friday, we will hold a School-Wide Assembly to present classroom charters and create one whole-school Charter to guide shared expectations.
Parents, please support this work by encouraging your child to follow their charter and model kindness and respect at home.

TIP OF THE WEEK : Supporting Learning at Home: Study Routines & Attendance
Creating consistent study routines at home is one of the most powerful ways to support your child’s learning. Research shows that students who establish regular homework and study habits are more likely to retain information, develop critical thinking skills, and perform better academically. A predictable routine—even just 20–30 minutes a day—helps children focus, manage time, and build responsibility.
Equally important is regular school attendance. Missing even a few days of school can create gaps in learning, make it harder for students to keep up, and affect their social-emotional connections with classmates. Together, consistent routines at home and strong attendance help ensure your child thrives academically and socially.
Tips for Families:
Set a quiet, consistent study space at home.
Break homework into manageable chunks.
Celebrate progress and effort, not just results.
Prioritize getting to school on time every day.

Franklin’s Spring Concert Was a Huge Hit! 🎶
On May 22, we enjoyed a truly terrific Spring Concert here at Franklin Elementary! The gym was packed with families, and the energy in the room was full of pride, joy, and celebration.
Our students wowed the audience with their beautiful singing and instrumental performances. It was especially impressive to hear how much they’ve grown musically—many of our students are now confidently playing more sophisticated songs, a testament to their hard work and practice throughout the year.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated music teacher, Mrs. Coletti, whose passion, patience, and commitment to music education continues to inspire our young performers. Her efforts make all the difference, and we are so grateful for the musical experiences she brings to our school.
Thank you to all the families who joined us for this special event and for always supporting the arts at Franklin. Bravo to our amazing students—we are so proud of you! 💙
