Dear Parents and Guardians, I would just like to re-introduce myself, my name is Emily Arons and I am the school social worker at Franklin Elementary. This is my second year at Franklin Elementary, but I have been a school social worker for the last 7 years. I am excited to start another school year at Franklin Elementary! I wanted to let parents and guardians know some of the ways that I can be helpful to you and your child. As the school social worker, my role is to assist in facilitating increased communication between home and school, to counsel kids at school both individual and in groups, and to help parents with strategies that they can use at home with their kids. Students can always come to talk to me about anything going on; if they are having trouble with their friends, if something is happening at home, or if they just need to chat. I am also available to provide outside resources for support to children and families (ie: referrals to things such as therapy and family services, financial assistance programs, and other community resources). I am open to talking to any parent or guardian who may have questions or concerns. I can be reached at aronse@stratk12.org Please do not hesitate to contact me about anything at all and hopefully I can be of assistance to you and your family! I look forward to another great year at Franklin! Sincerely, Emily Arons, LMSW

Dear Franklin Families, I hope the kids are as excited as we are for the new academic year !!! Our first day of school is Thursday, August 31st. Arrival time is 8:30 AM - 8:45 AM. Dismissal : 3:15 PM. ( ** Kindergartners only** arrival time : 9 AM ) * I will have some "FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL" signs in front of the school by our beautiful garden. Come a bit earlier on Thursday , if you can, so I can take some pictures of the kids outside with their friends 😍 Some Important Reminders : - Please be ready with your identification card to pick up your child from school. Our staff will only dismiss students to adults who are listed in the Power School emergency contact. - Be patient during the first week(s) of dismissal. Our teachers are getting to know their new students & guardians and we need to make sure everyone dismisses safely and to the assigned adult. - Drive extra carefully around school grounds and promptly follow staff directions. Barnum Avenue is a very busy intersection. Please review crossing safety reminders with children. Pedestrians must use the crosswalk and always wait for the "Walk" signal before crossing . We will have crossing guards to assist during our arrival/dismissal time. - Please DO NOT park on the corner of Barnum and Burritt Ave since it blocks the flow of the traffic. Wednesday, June 7, 2023 RE: Air Quality Update Due to the wildfires in Canada, we continue to see hazy and smoky conditions. This afternoon air quality deteriorated. For the safety of our students and staff, PE and recess was held indoors. All afternoon and evening events, including both indoor and outdoor, have been canceled. In addition, all outdoor field trips planned for tomorrow have been canceled as well. YMCA afterschool will be closing at 4:30 PM this afternoon. Please arrange for pick up at that time. As we navigate through the next several days, we will continue to update you with any changes. A very special ribbon cutting ceremony took place last week to celebrate the inauguration of our inspiring STEAM room, The Patterson Project ! The Patterson Project is a beautiful tribute to Mrs. Patterson who had a deep love for science, kids, and kids’ creative imagination. The dedication and talent of our incredible educators, Ms. Therriault and Mrs. Quincy, shine through in the design of the room. With the support of the BEST grant, Donors' Choose donations, and their personal efforts, they have created a space where our Franklin Falcons will actively explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Our STEAM room has several high tech robots that introduces kids to coding, legos, Kinect sand, and many other hands-on activities and lesson plans. Our goal is to foster collaboration among students, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. ❤️On behalf of our Franklin community, I would to thank Ms. Therriault, Mrs. Quincy and Mr. Quincy for their time, love and dedication ! You are Simply AMAZING! Your hard work will have a positive impact in the academic lives of our students for many, many years to come!!! ❤️❤️🙏🏽

Good morning, It looks like mother nature is going to cooperate for our annual field day this coming Friday at Penders Field. All permission slips were due on Friday, May 12th...if you have not done so please sign and return permission slip/emergency contact forms as soon as possible. Also if you have not completed the Sodexo lunch form please do so as the Sodexo staff needs an exact count for food prep. A few items to consider: 1. Penders field is a synthetic turf field it is extremely important that ALL students wear their SNEAKERS. In the interest of safety, please do not have your child wear sandals, open toed shoes or crocs. 2. Students may wear casual and comfortable clothes...no swimsuits. 3. Consider sun protection...hat, and sunscreen 4. There will be water station for hydration..if you send your child with a water bottle be sure to have their name labeled on it. Questions, email me at meyersj@stratk12.org Regards, Mr. Meyers

Good morning Franklin Families, Please be aware that you should receive an email later today from a company called Panorama. It will have a link to take a survey about your experience with Franklin. Your input on this is so important as we take the results to see what families believe we are doing well and what we can get better at. I hope you will take a few minutes to complete the survey. If you don't see it later, it may go to your email spam box. If you need any assistance with it, please let us know. Thanks!
