Greetings Franklin Families, Re: Field day 6-3-22 Our annual Franklin Field day is on the horizon. I would like to share some important information with you in advance. We have not had a field day in 3 years, and here are a few quick recommendations that you might find beneficial for your child. 1.) Hat 2.) Sunscreen (apply before coming to school) 3.) Water Bottle (there will be water/cups available as well). 4.) SNEAKERS...safety first, please, do not wear crocs, sandals, or open-toed footwear, etc. 5.) [No] Uniform...students should wear casual and comfortable clothing (not uniform, and no bathing suits) As excited as we all are to be able to have this event…we are limiting this field day event this year to students and staff only to be in attendance at the field. In order to follow safe social distancing, close contact guidelines, and for the safety of the school community, we ask that you respect this request. Lastly, we will be monitoring the weather this week...if inclement weather forces us to cancel the event I will post a message on Class Dojo. Regards, Mr. Meyers Physical Education and Health Education Franklin School

Good morning, Franklin Falcons! 🦅 Miss Owen here, to give you the latest updates for our school cereal collection! 5 weeks ago, our school began collecting cereal donations for Sterling House. Before we send off our donations, we made a huge cereal box domino train in our hallways to kick off our Friday. To add a little extra fun, we have been in a collecting competition for grades PreK through 2 and 3-6. So, drum roll please….. In first place for the 1st floor competition, grade 2 has won a popsicle party and collected 127 cereal boxes! In first place for the 2nd floor competition, grade 3 came in HOT and stole the show from grade 4 and collected 111 boxes! I will be planning with grades 2 and 3 to plan for a good day to hold our popsicle celebration! Also, a huge shout-out to Miss Moore, our District Health Teacher, who asked family and friends to help our donation train. Miss Moore donated over 150 boxes to our school. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT, MISS MOORE! In total, we collected nearly 700 boxes! Franklin Falcons, Thank you so much for donating and making this an amazing whole school collection! Sterling House is always giving back to us here in Stratford, and the best we can do is do the same!!!

Hi Franklin Families, Yesterday we hosted an all school live stream event called NED’s Kindness Adventure. We trust your student was inspired by the show which taught about choosing kindness, respect and acceptance. ‍ If you'd like additional resources they are available here: www.kindnessadventure.com/resources.html ‍If you’d like to purchase a handcrafted kindness item for your child they will be available on May 27, May 31, June 1, and June 2 from 8:30-8:45am in Room 9. And don’t forget to ask your student what they learned in the show about including others, caring is cool, and that different can be good. Kindness Rocks! Love, Mrs. Aurelia

Good morning Franklin Families, We are off to a great start today! Please be advised that we have had an increased police presence, as you may have noticed at arrival, which will continue to be in place. Please don't be alarmed by this, Stratford PD is here to provide us with an extra layer of support with the hopes of making everyone feel a bit more secure. If you decide to discuss the tragic event that occurred in Texas with your child, please consider reviewing this resource from the National Association of School Psychologists at https://www.nasponline.org/resources-and-publications/resources-and-podcasts/school-safety-and-crisis/school-violence-resources/talking-to-children-about-violence-tips-for-parents-and-teachers

⚠️ ATTENTION, FALCONS ⚠️ Here are our current Cereal Collection standings! For our PreK-2 competition, grade 2 is in a strong lead, but grade K is catching up for a close call! For our 3-6 competition, grade 4 is in the lead, but the other grade levels aren’t far behind! There was even a donation “match” side competition with grade 3. Who will win?! Standby for our last 3 days of collecting! And, for our video that will be created during our cereal domino run on Friday. At Franklin School, we love to give back to our community! ❤️🦅

Dear Franklin Families, It is with great sadness that we have all received the news of the events that took place in Texas today. Please know that the safety of our children is always our top priority. To this end, our staff works diligently behind the scenes to plan and do everything in our power to give our children a safe learning environment. We respect that some families decide to discuss issues with their children while others do not. If you have discussed this event and you feel your child may need support working through the emotional toll it may take, please reach-out to our team.

👚Last week we sent a flyer home about our "Franklin's PTO Closet" Has your child outgrown their uniforms or spirit wear ? If so, our "Franklin Closet" is a great way to support our school community by donating uniforms. Our PTO will wash, fold and sort the donated uniforms during the summertime and distribute them back to our Franklin Families during our welcome back event on Friday, September 2nd ! Yeah! Our super second graders did an awesome job with Mrs. Phelan decorating our donation box. Our donation box is located in the hallway by the main office and it looks beautiful! Thank you team! A very special thank you to Mrs. Jade Vazquez ! She is spearheading this fantastic idea and sustainable initiative ! We are grateful for you !

Hello Families! Around here we like to mix things up and have Fun Fridays where we play games, but have fun while we learn! I wanted to let you know about 2 games that the K-2 students love to play. The first is “What’s Gnu?” This game is a CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) game that has kids compete to see who can build the most CVC words. They have to be able to read the words they build in order to earn points. The latest and greatest game that everyone is going wild for is called, “Blah, Blah, Blah”. This game has students match sounds from a word in their playing hand to a sound from the drawing deck. When students get down to one card they exclaim, “Blah, Blah, Blah” which declares them the winner. Be careful though, this game has cards that can make you skip a turn, reverse playing direction or add cards to your hand. We’ve been having lots of fun with this game! If you’d like more information for either of these games please let me know! Have a great weekend! Mrs. Terifay

Hi Franklin Families! We have an exciting upcoming school-wide live stream event being held on Thursday, May 26th. It's called NED's Kindness Adventure. NED's Kindness Adventure assembly supports our initiatives for developing a positive and caring school climate. Its proactive approach aims to prevent many forms of mistreatment by showcasing the sense of satisfaction that takes place when a child chooses to show kindness, respect, and acceptance. The Kindness Adventure assembly is brought to our school at a low cost because of the unique Pay-It-Forward program. After the assembly, students will have the opportunity to purchase beaded and carved jewelry and other hand-crafted items, made by artisans in Kenya. This sale will start on Friday, May 27th, and continue until the following Thursday, June 2nd. We will be holding the sale in Room 9 from 8:30-8:45 am. Please let me know if you have any questions! Love, Mrs. Aurelia

⚠️ATTENTION⚠️ Franklin Families, We will be extending our cereal donations for another 2 weeks (until Friday 5/27). The cereal will be going to Sterling House after we have some fun setting up the boxes to form a domino run down Franklin’s hallways! Giving back to our community is crucial, and we want to give our collection some extra time. As times are tough, giving back is MORE important than ever! Right now, we are just shy of 400 boxes. Our goal is to double this number! We got this, Falcons 🦅 🙌🏼
