iReady Data

Reading (top)                      Math (bottom)

As the data indicates, we have a lot of work to do with our students. Data Team cycles begin this week where we will focus on the following instructional practices:

  • High-Quality Core Curriculum – Ensure lessons are aligned to grade-level standards and taught with fidelity.

  • Differentiated Instruction – Use flexible grouping, choice boards, and scaffolds to meet varied student needs.

  • Explicit Instruction – Model skills and strategies step-by-step with think-alouds and guided practice.

  • Checks for Understanding – Use frequent formative assessments (exit tickets, thumbs up/down, whiteboards) to adjust instruction in real time.

  • Spiral Review & Cumulative Practice – Revisit previously taught concepts regularly to build retention.

Apple Week in 1st Grade!

This week we focused on Apple Week and learned about Johnny Appleseed. Students can now explain what he planted, where he planted apple trees, what he wore on his head and feet, and what he traded for apple seeds and apples.

To extend our learning, we conducted an apple taste test. Students practiced collecting data, then created a graph to represent our class results. This activity reinforced both literacy and math skills by combining storytelling, observation, and data analysis.

This Week At Lordship School:

We held our first “stay put” drill on Friday 9/26. It was initiated with this prompt:

“Good morning, Lordship School. In just a moment, we are going to practice something called a Stay Put drill. The school may have to go into a stay put if there was a medical emergency in the hallway and we need to keep the area clear for the school nurse, or if a large spill or maintenance issue happens where it is safer to remain in the classrooms until it is taken care of.

During a Stay Put drill, everyone stays in their classrooms, keeps learning, and follows their teacher’s directions. No students will be allowed to leave the classroom for any reason during a stay put. All students and staff should stay where they are until the stay put is lifted.

This is just a practice—there is no emergency. We do this to make sure we all know what to do if we ever need to stay safely inside our rooms for a short time.

Your teachers will help you know what to do. Remember: Stay calm, stay quiet, and stay with your class. That’s why we call it Stay Put!

We’ll let you know when the drill is finished by coming on the loudspeaker and announcing “All clear, all clear, all clear.”

Students and staff were safe and calm and followed school procedures the whole time.

Congratulations to our friend Pablo in first grade, who earned a positive office referral for helping a classmate with their writing by sounding out and identifying the letters that made up the words they were writing!
