Flood Families,

Our Gallery Walk on Thursday was a hit! A BIG thanks you to all of the families who joined us and to our teachers who put together a great event. Our Falcons truly are amazing.

On Monday we will have the unique experience of a Solar Eclipse on Monday 4/8. Please discuss the attached information with your child as this event is happening during our dismissal time. SPS Solar Eclipse

For our Falcons that ride the bus each day, please remember:

-Be out at the bus stop 10 minutes before the scheduled time

-Times are approximate and may vary based on weather, construction, traffic or other unforeseen circumstances

-Anyone not meeting school expectations on the bus will be subject to consequences including a bus suspension

8th Grade Families, our Holiday Hill trip is a great way for our Falcons to cap off their time at Flood. Please remember though, any child that is not maintaining academic and/or behavioral expectations will not be allowed to attend the trip. This will be communicated to anyone impacted as early as possible and a refund will be issued. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Grigas.

8th Grade Families! Order a Class of ‘24 lawn sign to recognize your child as they fly the nest and move on to high school. Links are below:8th Grade Merch

Just a reminder that all kids should have their cell phones, AirPods, headphones etc. in their lockers. OFF and AWAY the ENTIRE DAY! We are seeing an increased number of phones and will continue to contact families and put plans in place for repeated usage. Also, hats, hoods and other headgear should not be worn in school.

Please consider joining us at our Career Day coming up in May. This is a great opportunity to share information on your chosen career and potentially spark some interest for our kids at Flood. If you are interested check out the flyer for more information. Career Day 2024

Flood Families,

As a school we are noticing an influx of students beginning to push the boundaries of certain school rules. Namely cell phones, airpods, headphones, backpacks and behavior. Please understand that the occurrence of these items cause major distractions for your child, their classmates, and their teachers.
Be advised that students seen with cell phones and/or airpods headphones will be asked to place them in their lockers or classroom numbered pockets. Any students who refuse or disregard this will be subject to consequences per the code of conduct.
Students who have backpacks at any point of the day prior to dismissal including the last block will receive correspondence to their parents or guardians and are subject to school consequences for insubordination.

We are also dealing with a number of students play fighting, engaging in horseplay and other various inappropriate physical behaviors. Please note that behavior involving hitting, punching, slapping, kicking, pushing, jumping on, tripping, grabbing, picking up, throwing down to the ground, throwing against the wall, chasing and running/racing are dangerous and very likely to end with unintentional injuries of students themselves, their friends and/or innocent others within the vicinity.

These behaviors, whether initiated or in response to another's actions, are both subject to an automatic behavioral referral. The referral could result in a suspension of multiple days depending on the conditions and circumstances of the situation.

Please share and discuss this information with your child and if you have any questions let us know.

Thank you for your continued support,

Greg Grigas-Principal

Qiana Taylor-Assistant Principal

Physical Fitness Tests

Starting next week and over the next few PE classes, all Flood 7th and 8th grade students will be participating in the Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment. The Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment (CPFA) is Connecticut’s annual assessment of public school students’ physical well-being.  Students in Grades 4, 6, and 8 are assessed annually. The goals of the assessment program are to:

  • inform schools, districts and the public about programs focusing on fitness and physical activity in our schools and evaluate their success

Students taking the CPFA are evaluated using age and gender appropriate standards in four components of fitness.  The components assessed include:

  • aerobic endurance;

  • flexibility;

  • upper body strength and endurance, and

  • abdominal muscle strength and endurance.

More information on the specific testing activities can be found on the Connecticut State Education website https://portal.ct.gov/SDE/Physical-Education/Physical-Education. Please encourage your child to participate to the best of their ability.

December 8, 2023

Flood Families,

The annual Door Decorating Contest has begun! This is a fun way to spread some holiday cheer and build community at Flood. There are already some creative finished products and more in progress. Our Winter Concert on 12/6 featured the Jazz Band, 7th Grade Chorus and Beginning Band and the performance was amazing! On 12/13 our second concert will feature the 8th Grade Chorus, Orchestra and Advanced Band. All concerts are in the Flood Auditorium at 7PM.

All of our Falcons are invited to participate in the National Civics Bee, sponsored by the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. Submissions are due on 1/8 and details are in the attachment below.

We love school spirit at Flood and fan support at games is the best. If your child would like to attend a game, they must go home first then return accompanied at the game by a family member who will stay at the game with them. Thank you for your understanding.

Stratford Rec. has a number of new offerings for the winter, the flyer is attached below.

If you are looking for a unique holiday gift, look no further! Get your child's Art on a mug, T-Shirt or many other items. Visit the Artsonia site here: Artsonia

Children are rewarded with Class Dojo points daily in each of their classes for being Safe, Organized, Accountable, and Respectful. Students will use these points to qualify them for various school activities, such as Teen Night and more.
