Parent Notification of Asbestos Management Plan

STRATFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS

TO: Parents and Staff

FROM: Superintendent of Schools

DATE: August 2009

In compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), we have performed inspections of our school buildings for asbestos-containing materials. The inspection findings and asbestos management plans are on file in each school’s administrative office.

The EPA also requires us to perform re-inspections of the asbestos materials every three years. Accredited asbestos inspectors will perform these inspections. An accredited management planner will review the results of the re-inspections and recommended actions we should take to mange all asbestos materials in our buildings, safely.

All asbestos materials in the schools are in good condition and we will continue to mange them in place, as recommended by the accredited management planner.

Our buildings are inspected every six (6) months as required by 19a-333-1 through 13 of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies, “Asbestos-Containing Materials in Schools”; to determine any changes in the condition of identified asbestos-containing building materials.

The results of the re-inspections are on file in the management plan in each school’s administrative office. You are welcome to review the plan any time during normal school hours (M-F, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).

We remind you that this notification is required by law and should not be construed to indicate the existence of any hazardous conditions in our school buildings.
