Mrs. Lisa Saunders has been appointed to the position of Assistant Principal for Nichols Elementary School. Mrs. Saunders is an authentic and compassionate educator who is committed to leading as a listener. Mrs. Saunders began her career as an elementary educator and has taught in both Newtown and Region 15 Public Schools. She has experience as a classroom teacher in grades Kindergarten through two and four through six. Most recently, Mrs. Saunders was awarded Teacher Innovation Champion for her work with design thinking, creativity, and technology in Connecticut’s K-12 Teacher Innovation Studio through Cooperative Educational Services/Ed Advance. Mrs. Saunders founded a mentoring program between elementary and high school students focusing on connection, belonging, and inclusivity while in Region 15.
Mrs. Saunders is a proud collegiate athlete who was inducted into the Western New England University Hall of Fame in 2019 for her accomplishments and leadership on the basketball court. She was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Western New England University, a Master of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education from Sacred Heart University, and an Educational Administration & Supervision Sixth-Year Certificate from the University of Bridgeport.
Mrs. Saunders has two sons, Drew and Mason. She enjoys running, biking, reading, and spending time on the lake with her husband, family, and friends.
Mrs. Saunders will start in her position on July 1, 2023.
