Congratulations to Bunnell HS Football Coach Ty Jenkins who was selected by the New York Giants as Coach of the Week!

The Giants Foundation and Gatorade to contribute $2,000 to the football program.

East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants and Gatorade have selected Mr. Ty Jenkins of Bunnell High School (Stratford, CT) as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 10 of the 2023 season.  The Bulldogs improved to 6-2 on the season with a 14-12 road win over the previously undefeated Notre Dame Catholic Lancers on Saturday.

The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to support local high school football programs. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes' lives. Each week during the high school football season, the Giants selected one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and contributing overall to their community.

In recognition of Coach Jenkins' selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check will be granted to the school's football program from The Giants Foundation and Gatorade. He will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll, and will be honored at a dinner following the season, as well as a 2024 pre-season home game.

Coach Jenkins is in his 5th season as head coach of the Bunnell Bulldogs, initially taking over the program at just 26 years old.  An alumnus of New London High School, where he won a state title in 2009 and served as team captain, Jenkins went on to play college football as a center at Southern Connecticut State University before beginning his coaching career as defensive coordinator at Stamford High School.  With records of 3-7, 6-4, 6-4 and now 6-2, the Bulldogs program has demonstrated consistent improvement every year under his leadership.

"The motto of our program is 'brick by brick' – living every day to get better, and to never be satisfied by staying the same," said Jenkins.  "I want to thank my amazing coaching staff, supportive principal, and awesome athletic director for helping me to instill this mindset into our program and school community."

In addition to coaching, serves as a special education teacher at Bunnell High School.  He is also the Executive Director of the Connecticut Minority Coaches Association, which works to provide education, promote awareness, aid with the personal skill development, and provide a support system for minority coaches in the state of Connecticut.  He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
